The idea of National Parks was that of a Scotsman (John Muir) a century ago, and National Parks were created in almost every country of the world. It was not until the summer of 2002 that Scotland open this, our first National Park. The Friends of Loch Lomond had campaigned for the park for more than 20 years, both directly and indirectly by representation on a variety of Working Parties and other relevant committees.

Our aims in the past have been to use the unique knowledge of our many hundreds of members to protect and conserve the beauty of Loch Lomond and its surroundings, whilst having regard to the social and economic welfare of the communities in the area around the Loch. This includes appropriate developments in appropriate places such as Loch Lomond Golf Course, Cameron House Hotel and Loch Lomond Shores.

Loch Lomond (12k)Our aims in the future remain the same but now we shall be co-operating with the National Park in addition to the Local Authorities. The need for comment on planning projects, initiatives to improve the environment as well as conserve it and a large number of people to keep a weather eye open will not be changed.

The Friends of Loch Lomond will help in any way we can.
